Two of our favorite true San Francisco characters are expressing TransLink affection — it’s a harmonic convergence!

First, we have Akit, who was surprised to receive a TransLink-themed t-shirt, flash drive and note from the MTC. “Somehow they also have my address” Akit noted (in a tone a little less freaked out that ours would have been). All this loot because of his vocal support of TransLink. (What about the rest of the Transmen, MTC?)

Then, we hear from the Appeal’s Chris Roberts, toiling away at this morning’s Rules Committee meeting :

Chris: Daly just said he uses Muni only 3-4 times a month. He bikes a lot, and uses TransLink. I wish I snagged a photo, he was waving his TransLink card around.
me: Does he like TL? What’s he saying?
Chris: who, Daly? I’m sure he would say he loves the TL.
me: TransLink
Chris: OOOH, yeah he likes TL
me: Daly Loves Everything TL

Apparently, in a discussion* with Bicycle Advisory Committee candidate Rachel Ebora (currently the Community Development Coordinator at Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center), Supervisor Daly asked Ebora if she had a car. She said she didn’t, that she bikes and uses Muni and BART. Perhaps mistaking Daly for a fare inspector, she then took out her BART card and FastPass to show the Board.

Daly’s response? Oh, I don’t do FastPass, I do TransLink, but I prefer to bike.

Which, of course, makes sense; if you’re only riding Muni 3 or 4 times a month, unless you’re also a intra-city BART power user, a FastPass is a waste of dough. But we’re still seeing this as a near-endorsement of TransLink, a system that continues to get raves. Summer can’t come soon enough!
