this column to the Appeal just in time for the denouement of the almost two year saga of former SF Supervisor Ed Jew, who’s scheduled to be sentenced to prison this Friday. Oh Ed, it makes me want to go back in time to 2007’s Bike To Work Day (the day before the raid — sadness!!!) and tell you “don’t do it, Ed, don’t do it!!”

Intriguingly, I just checked the court’s calendar for Friday and if you stick around until 3 p.m. in the same courtroom, the SFPD cop who got in trouble for his videos of the Hunters Point SFPD station is suing Gavin Newsom. Does Judge Illston get all the good local cases or what??

Anyhow, where was I? Oh yes, Ed Jew’s sentencing: Ed’s perspicacious lawyer Stuart Hanlon is asking for a sentence of one year and one day, and the feds are asking for four years and nine months, because of Ed’s unscrupulous Cantonese-cheating ways. Reading this link is like a trip down memory lane — we had forgotten the detail that Ed had put $10,000 of his ill-gotten gains in the fridge and wrapped in foil in his Burlingame home!

Well, in all seriousness, this is very sad for Ed and his family and probably San Francisco as well — but on the bright side, at least the question of where Ed will be living will be settled for at least the next one year and one day.
