UPDATE: Most recently, BCN is reporting that we’re back to seven people injured in this afternoon’s crash. The truck, which has been confirmed as taking an illegal left turn in front of the T before being hit, has been identified as from John Christner Trucking. That said, “the official cause of the collision remains under investigation by San Francisco police, Sgt. Wilfred Williams said.” BCN added that neither driver involved in the crash was injured and that, per Muni policy, “the driver of the Muni vehicle will be tested for drugs and alcohol and placed on non-driving status.”
UPDATE: At 5:44 Muni confirms what Twitter told us, like, an hour ago: “As of 4:45 p.m., the problem below cleared and regular service resumed on the T Third line.”
UPDATE: Twitter people tell us the accident is cleared and the intersection reopened.
UPDATE: CBS5 has great video of the accident from above. the accident scene, and the briefing on the accident.
UPDATE: While Muni’s spokerperson told us 7 people were injured in the crash, SFFD spokesperson Lt. Ken Smith says the number is closer to 12, with 8 people requiring hospitalization.
UPDATE: Muni Diaries notes “Sure does look like semi tried to make a rogue left.” Playing chicken with Muni Metro? Never a good idea.
We’ve just gotten word that at 3:20 this afternoon, a southbound T-Third collided with a southbound 18-wheeler at 3rd Street and 22nd Street. We’re told seven T passengers from the T have been taken to the hospital, and that buses are providing substitute service for the T until the accident is cleared up. You’ll know more when we do.
