UPDATE: The fire mainly damaged the kitchen and the back of the building — the bar and dining area (and, yes, it is as old school as the yelpers characterized it as being) smell smoky, but seem untouched. The owner’s nephew, who was there waiting for the insurance adjuster, said the place would be closed “for a few weeks, at least” but was awaiting an assessment before making any decisions.

Eater SF might have to revise this caption, as beloved “seriously old school” restaurant Granada Cafe was damaged by fire early this morning. SFPD responded to calls at 2:55 AM, when neighbors spotted smoke and flames coming from the back of the two-story building.

It looks like the fire, which was contained by 3:15, began in the kitchen area. No injuries were reported, and damage to the restaurant has yet to be determined.
