I have to say, your artist rendering probably is not fair to Muni. I think you give them way too much credit to actually put up a message as straightforward as "tickets" on it. I'd expect it to be much more along the lines of something literal and obscure like "transit fare media" and it would probably be under a bigger sign reading "NOT BART" so you don't notice anyway. You did leave out a Muni logo, which is probably correct.

So MUNI is going to drop all that money on ticket machines that they know they'll be replacing in a year or two? That doesn't make any damn sense (to me anyway).

Why does Muni need new ticket machines?
Won't TransLink completely replace the current system?
I used TransLink on Saturday (currently in trial mode) and it worked fine. I put $20 cash on the card and tagged in at the turnstile at Montgomery St. Station. Easy as pie.

Translink will make it easier because more people with have a card with enough fare on it, but there's always going to be a large number of riders, especially tourists, who don't have a translink card or even if they have one it's run out.

Does this mean we'll no longer be able to get dollar coins as change?
Will we have to learn Japanese?
Will the Muni subway routes have their own station music like in Japan too?
