monopoly-money-748981.jpgPaidcontent.org is reporting that Gothamist Media, which owns city-focused sites like our own SFist (which you probably already know that I used to write for, but there's your disclosure) has been sold to Cablevision-owned media conglomerate Rainbow Media for $5-6 million bucks.

SFist editor (and, disclosure again, seriously why do I even try to write about local media? my pal) Brock Keeling had a flat "no comment" when I asked him about the report, and Gothamist publisher Jake Dobkin has not responded to my email to him by publication time. Update: Dobkin, too, responds with a "no comment."

I could speculate all day about what this might mean for the network and, more specifically, for SFist, but why do that when you could in the comments?

Update: It's a hot topic!

The NY Times, citing "a person familiar with the negotiations," confirms Paid Content's report.

New York Magazine reports news of the sale like it's a done deal.

The Inquisitr says "the deal may isn't finalized yet" (sic).

Gawker commenter/publisher Nick Denton speculates on the conditions of the deal (if it exists).

The Village Voice is in now predictable attack mode.

Business Insider offers more insights, saying that "Rainbow Media has been in talks with Gothamist for a "couple of months," but there is no official deal signed yet" and that the purchase price will be based on "how well Gothamist performs under their new deal."

Hear that, Brock? How well they perform. It's ALL UP TO YOU.
