Let’s start the week with some literary TV, because why read a book when you can watch two hours of biographical documentaries about the authors of some books? Tonight, “American Masters” looks at the lives of Gone With the Wind author Margaret Mitchell at 9 P.M., and To Kill a Mockingbird author Harper Lee at 10 P.M., both on KQED.
You can continue your edification on Tuesday, April 3rd, with “Grand Coulee Dam: American Experience.” That Grand Coulee Dam is more than a Woody Guthrie song, you know. 9:30 P.M. on KQED.
OK. That’s enough good-for-you TV for now. On Wednesday, April 4th, it’s back to the stupid and funny, with the new sitcom “Best Friends Forever,” starring Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham. It’s kind of like “Three’s Company,” in that it’s about two gals and a guy living together, and…really, that’s where the similarity ends. So not like “Three’s Company” at all. Especially because this one is actually funny. You can watch it at 8:30 P.M. on NBC, or, if you just can’t wait until then, watch the pilot right here, right now! Hey, look! It’s San Francisco! For one second!
Being Elmo was one of the best documentaries of 2011, and you can watch it on Thursday, April 5th, when it airs on “Independent Lens” at 10 P.M. on KQED. I was straight-up crying within the first 10 minutes of the movie, not because it was sad, but because it was just so sweet, heartfelt, and inspiring.
Continuing in the realm of documentaries about people finding a calling, and following through on it, is God Is Bigger Than Elvis. You might have seen a nun walking the red carpet at the recent Oscars and thought, “What’s up with that?!” Well, that was Dolores Hart, a former Hollywood starlet and Elvis Presley co-star who gave it all up to become a Benedictine nun. Watch the Oscar-nominated short film on HBO at 8 P.M.
Since the last pick was about nuns, it’s only appropriate that our final pick be about….hookers! Or, “masseuses,” take your pick. Jennifer Love Hewitt and her Love Hewitts are reprising their roles from the 2010 made-for-TV movie The Client List in the new Lifetime series…“The Client List.” Is Lifetime trying to change its demographic from “Television for Women” to “Television for Women, and OK, Fine, Here’s Something For the Guys Who Are Being Forced to Watch, Too”? Because JLH’s breasts should really get top billing here. Watch them Sunday, April 8th, at 10 P.M. on Lifetime.
