As a fairly average music-enjoying human being, I–from time to time–fantasize about being a famous singer. And when I do, I frequently imagine I sing like Zooey Deschanel. (Maybe someday if I practice enough in the shower … )

The actress-cum-half-of-indie-pop-duo She & Him has a voice with the kind of effortlessly buttery schmaltz you seldom hear from people who aren’t dead. Those pipes are featured front and center on the pair’s newly dropped single from their second album, “In the Sun” which also includes guest vocals from Tilly and the Wall.

M. Ward’s upbeat guitar and the cute piano riff aren’t bad, if not exactly worth writing home about. On top of that, the extra voices make the track sound a little like the hippest group therapy imaginable, but ultimately, it all comes back to Deschanel’s croon, calling the calls while the rest of the pack answers her, “Well, all right/ It’s OK / We all get the slip sometimes every day.”

Though, somehow I kind of doubt Zooey Deschanel often really gets the slip. She’s a hot actress/singer who doesn’t suck something awful, and she’s about to play Coachella. Sigh.
