Back in October 2009 we reported on Flux Summit, the premier quarterly (and free) electronic music industry event in San Francisco. Well guess what – time flew (who knew) and it’s time for the second Flux Summit – Thursday, January 21st at Pyramind Studios (5th & Folsom).
Of all the music conferences and summits around the city and beyond, Flux Summit is my favorite because it is genre focused and brings together electronic musicians, producers and technologists for common purpose with the most sensible platform. Flux is one evening with one round table discussion, interaction with a production studio, product demos, food from Oola, booze if you want it, and SFs biggest opportunity for electronic musicians: Test Press.
The topic for this quarter’s Flux Summit discussion is “What’s Shaking Down SF Music Venues?” because venues, artists and musicians who spend their lives dedicated to music and the fans who enjoy it say they are being threatened by the actions of the California Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC).
Moderated by Michael Winger, Recording Academy SF Chapter Secretary, other discussion leaders include Debra Walker (candidate for SF District 6 Supervisor and advisor of the SF Music and Sustainability policy), Terrance Alan (SF Entertainment Commission Founding President), Mark Rennie (Entertainment Law Specialist) and Tim Benetti (co-owner of nightclub, Bottom Of The Hill).
In addition to the discussion and mixer is what I once called, and will continue call, the cum shot: Test Press – the music review session that enables DJs, producers and artists to gain instant feedback on their music from top industry experts. Past industry experts include representatives from Microsoft Zune, Ingrooves, Om Records, XLR8R, Amoeba Records, and Pandora.
