On Monday, we told you about the FCC's recent shut down of Pirate Cat Radio, ending their reign of terrestrial radio broadcasting.   For 13 years, Pirate Cat has provided a public service to San Francisco with frequently aired Public Service Announcements and local event information. In a recently issued statement, PCR founder Monkey reiterates Pirate Cat Radio "provides a voice and outlet for many sections of the community of the Bay Area which cannot make themselves heard anywhere." Naturally, Pirate Cat is turning to the community they've supported as they shift gears and foster their operations as an internet radio broadcasting station.

The station runs entirely on volunteerism and a not-for-profit business model - they cannot pay their $10,000 fine. To alleviate the legal situation which shut them down, PCR is shifting gears into "full pledge drive, telethon, benefit and fundraising. . .this way we can preserve our original programming and continue to serve our listeners around the world" says the email sent to Pirate Cat Radio fans this morning.  To help support Pirate Cat Radio, you can attend any of these events around the bay area or go to the website and participate:

Thursday Nov 5, 6pm-9pm, Join Pirate Cat Radio DJs for a Benefit Bar Night at Tonic on Polk @ Union

Friday, Nov 20, 8pm join Pirate Cat Radio's DJ Deevice, Anthony Mansfield, Mike Bee, Tasho, and Sweater Funk for a dance party benefit at the Triple Crown. Only $5 before 10pm, $10 after. RSVP here.
