’80s nostalgia can be real fun when practiced responsibly. Let’s not limit ourselves to leggings and Ray-bans alone, hey? “Terminally Chill” rightly pays due to the funk that spilled in from the seventies. Got to say, I hardly saw it coming (thanks, Daft Punk, for leaving that disco door ajar.) With Neon Indian, the oft-reviled genre is in real good hands.
Oh, and apparently ’round this time music came on cassette tapes, and if they were real good and you played them lots, they would get totally warped and sound, if you were of the mind, awesome. For the kids who missed out on this quaint effect, Neon Indian slides the warp right back into the MP3. It’s everything you imagined it to be.
“Terminally Chill” hails from the recently released LP, “Psychic Chasms.” If track titles like “Deadbeat Summer” and “Should Have Taken Acid with You” sound appealing (maybe even relevant) to you, I strongly suggest you check them out. For now, sit back, hit play on this and do your best not to resist the gyrations that it compels. If you listen carefully, you can make out a background layer of birds chirping.
