As part of a joint video operation between VidSF and the Appeal, I was given the terrifying task of reporting from the San Francisco International Film Festival’s Opening Night Party. I’ve never done this before, which translated into some incredible nerves which then seemed to manifest themselves in my screaming at the camera. My apologies. Our goal for the evening (myself along with camera-vixen Beth Hondl) was to hook up with Peter Bratt, director of the opening night film, La Mission and, far more importantly, brother of the film’s star and Julia Robert’s ex, Benjamin Bratt.

We figured we’d have a better shot of Peter’s time than Benjamin’s.

Boy, were we wrong.

As the Bratt Brothers started down the red carpet, I asked a publicist if we could ask a few questions. “I don’t know, it’s up to them” was her worrisome response. Um, hello? This is a red carpet. Isn’t that the deal? But what do I know? I’m no Joan Rivers.

So, as the Bratt Brothers approached, I leaned forward and asked, “Can we ask you a couple of questions?”

Peter Bratt looked exasperated and said, “Ugh, we’ve kinda been answering questions all night.”

He hemmed. He hawed. I, quite frankly, was floored.

And then Benjamin showed up, leaned in and said, “Sure we can do an interview.”

His smile was warm, his skin so smooth, his voice deep and sultry.

As far as I’m concerned, my year was made.
