The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) advises San Francisco residents and visitors of the following parking and transit schedules for the holiday weekend, Saturday, July 3 – Monday, July 5.

Muni
Muni will operate on a regular schedule for both Sunday and Monday. Sunday schedules will be in effect for Muni in addition to the added service detailed below. Regular Muni service will be provided on Monday.

Parking Enforcement

Sunday, July 4:
Parking meter and tow enforcement will follow the Sunday schedule on July 4 with Fisherman’s Wharf meters and Seven-Day-a-Week Street Sweeping enforced.

Monday, July 5:
Citywide meters and Seven-Day-a-Week Street Sweeping will be enforced.

Residential Parking Permits and Daytime Street Sweeping (Monday-Friday) will not be enforced.

Meter customers are advised to check their meter to verify the enforcement hours at each location. Hazards are always subject to citation and towing.

Independence Day Fireworks
On Sunday, July 4 the annual San Francisco Independence Day Fireworks Celebration will take place starting at 2 p.m. along the waterfront near the Municipal Pier and Pier 39. Entertainment will be at Pier 39, Aquatic Park and Ghirardelli Square. The fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m.

As many as 200,000 people are expected in this area, resulting in traffic congestion and disruption of transit service in the northern section of the City.

Street Closures

8 a.m., Saturday to 5 p.m., Monday
Jefferson Street from Aquatic Park to Hyde Street

2 p.m., Sunday to 4 a.m., Monday
Jefferson Street between Hyde and Powell Streets

8 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Sunday
Van Ness Avenue between North Point Street and the Municipal Pier Terminus

9:30 to 11 p.m. Sunday
Northbound Embarcadero at Broadway

8:30 p.m. to midnight, Saturday
Marina Boulevard exit off Doyle Drive may be closed

The remaining areas of Fisherman’s Wharf bounded by The Embarcadero, Van Ness Avenue and Bay Street will be closed for public safety as the number of pedestrians entering the area increases.

The following streets may be closed to traffic as early as 5 p.m., Saturday with closures expanding southward throughout the day as ordered by SFPD and SFMTA Parking Control Officers:

Embarcadero: Bay to Taylor
Jefferson: Embarcadero to Hyde
Beach: Hyde to west of Polk
Taylor: Beach to Embarcadero
Polk & Larkin: North Point to Beach
Hyde: Beach to Jefferson
Leavenworth: Beach to Jefferson
Jones: Beach to Jefferson
Mason: Beach to Jefferson
Powell: Beach to Jefferson

Muni Service
Sunday schedules will be in effect for Muni in addition to the added service detailed below. Regular Muni service will be provided on Monday.

Starting at 2 p.m., the SFMTA will provide pre-event bus shuttles to Pier 39 and Van Ness Avenue and Chestnut via Van Ness Avenue and The Embarcadero and Bay Streets. The shuttles will supplement regular Muni service from Caltrain station at 4th and King Streets, from the Ferry Building and from Van Ness Avenue and Market Street.

SFMTA staff will be located at the Caltrain station and at the Ferry Building to sell special transfers for return trips. Regular Muni fares will apply.

Return shuttles will board at two staging areas after the fireworks display until 11:20 p.m. The return staging areas are:

The Embarcadero and Bay for service to the Ferry Building and Caltrain
Francisco and Polk for service to Van Ness and Market

Caltrain riders are advised that the last Muni shuttle from The Embarcadero and Bay staging area will leave no later than 11:20 p.m. to meet the last Caltrain, which departs at midnight.

Once the crowds disperse, regular Muni service will resume. This can take at least a half hour. Participants and those traveling in the area are asked to allow extra travel time and to have patience.

Supplemental Metro Service
The SFMTA will provide extra two-car trains beginning at 2:30 p.m. to supplement Metro service between West Portal and Embarcadero stations.

Reroutes
The following regular Muni service will be rerouted due to the congestion that is anticipated in the event area.

F Market
8x Bayshore Express
19 Polk
30 Stockton
39 Coit
47 Van Ness
49 Van Ness-Mission

After 3 p.m., the Powell-Hyde cable car line will be re-routed to the Powell-Mason line.

The following Muni routes may be affected after the fireworks due to the increased number of transit customers and the high volume of pedestrian traffic:

91 Owl
22 Fillmore
45 Union-Stockton

Fillmore Street Jazz Festival
On Saturday and Sunday, the Fillmore Street Jazz Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day on Fillmore Street between Jackson and Eddy streets.

The following street closures will be required from 12:01 a.m., Saturday to 11:59 p.m., Sunday:

Fillmore Street from Jackson Street to Eddy Street
Washington Street from Steiner Street to Webster Street
Clay Street from Steiner Street to Webster Street
Ellis Street from Fillmore Street to Webster Street
O’Farrell from Fillmore to Steiner
Intersections: Fillmore and Clay, Fillmore and Washington, Fillmore and Ellis, and Fillmore and O’Farrell

The following Muni routes will be affected:

1 California 22 Fillmore 38 Geary

2 Clement 24 Divisadero

3 Jackson 31 Balboa
