shooting_nighttime.jpgA 33-year-old man is suffering life-threatening injuries after he was shot 16 times early this morning, a spokesman for the San Francisco Police Department said.

Police responded to the 300 block of Ellis Street at around 3:15 a.m. and found that the victim was wearing a bulletproof vest, officer Samson Chan said.

But the victim was shot at least once in the face, and was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Chan said.

Police do not have any suspect information at this time, and no witnesses have come forward yet, Chan said.

The shooting is believed to be gang related, he said. The city’s gang task force is leading the investigation into the incident.
