sfpd_crimescene.jpgA 46-year-old San Francisco man found severely beaten early Sunday in the city’s Lower Haight neighborhood is expected to survive but remained in intensive care at the hospital today, according to police.

Police arrested William Valentine, 42, of San Francisco, after Valentine allegedly tried to run over the victim with his pickup truck near Webster and Waller streets at about 2:30 a.m.

Valentine crashed the truck into a telephone phone, then allegedly got out and beat the victim several times on the head and body with a bat, according to police.

The two men knew each other prior to the incident, police said.

The cause of the dispute was not released, but police spokeswoman Lt. Lyn Tomioka said alcohol or drugs was not a factor.

Tomioka added that the victim is able to speak but has been “somewhat reluctant” to cooperate with investigators.

Valentine was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, mayhem and assault with a deadly weapon.
