A 49-year-old man suspected of sexually assaulting a fellow patient at San Francisco General Hospital on Saturday is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning, according to the district attorney’s office.

Irving Jovel will be arraigned in San Francisco Superior Court on four felony counts, district attorney’s office spokeswoman Erica Derryck said.

He is charged with forced sodomy, forced sodomy against an incapacitated person, forced digital penetration and forced digital penetration against an incapacitated person, Derryck said.

Prosecutors filed the charges on Wednesday.

Derryck said the victim, a quadriplegic, was attacked in his hospital room.

Hospital officials said in a statement Wednesday that they contacted police as soon as they found out about the incident and are cooperating with the investigation.

The hospital is also conducting its own internal investigation.
