The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency announced today its new chief safety officer will be Reginald Mason, former associate vice president and chief safety officer for the public transit agency in Houston.
Mason will begin overseeing Muni’s safety operations on July 6 when he takes over for interim Chief Safety Officer Carter Rohan, who replaced Jim Dougherty in April.
According to Muni, as chief safety officer of the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County in Houston, Mason oversaw a 25 percent reduction in bus collisions, a 53 percent drop in rail collisions and a 42 percent drop in workers’ compensation claims.
Mason will report directly to SFMTA Executive Director Nathaniel Ford. “Safety is our top priority, and I look forward to working with him,” Ford said in a prepared statement.
