Local photo sharing site Flickr is now making it easier for photographers to sell their images. CNET reports that Flickr, in partnership with Getty Images, will be providing licensing services for its users. Initially, Getty was picking and choosing photos, then asking for user submissions, but a new Request to License option allows photographers to add a link to any of their photos prospective buyers can click on to purchase the image for use.
A rep from Getty Images will help handle details like permissions, releases and pricing, then email the shooter to finish the deal. Of course, users will have to sign a Getty Images contributor contract upon entering into the program.
Users seem to be reacting positively, with their primary criticisms of the service have to do with vagueness around Getty’s requirements for photo quality and questions on payout. Already, though, there are 104,800 photographs available in the Getty Images Flikr collection. To view those and for more information, click here.
