A record low turnout’s expected for today’s election, but I’m at the age where I prefer an empty place to a packed one (typically, I apply this preference to bars, but whatever), so that didn’t bother me none as I hit my polling place (find where yours is here) this morning at about 8:20.
There were two other folks doing their civic duty at the Outer Sunset firehouse (insert offensive remark about wishing to be sex offended by a firefighter here) when I got there, and two more arrived while I was debating between DCCC candidates (seriously, I need to pick 12? GOD).
Even if you’re voting absentee, you need to make sure your ballot is in by 8 tonight. They don’t care about postmarks, they need it at a polling place by then, for reals.

Update 9:30 AM: Andrew J. Kaplan reports, via twitter, that the “scene at Polk and Union (polling) place was subdued and nearly empty at 7:30am. No problems to report.”
Update 2:25: Micheal Petrelis writes in to report:
“This is my report from the St Francis of Assisi senior home’s polling station, located at Guerrero and Brosnan. This 50-ish voter got there about ten minutes before noon, and only one other voter, a handsome mature man with gray hair, was casting his ballot. I was the 53rd voter at the station, according to the numbers on the electronic ballot box, and one of the workers.”
“As I was leaving, a woman who looked to be in her late 40s came in, told the poll workers she didn’t have much time since she was on her lunch break, she quickly voted. Behind her was a Latino man and his young son. He spoke Spanish with one of the workers, and I think, based on their gestures and looking around the relatively empty space, they spoke briefly about the low turnout.”
Via twitter, Melanie reports that “I was at mine in NOPA/Western Addition at 7:00 am and I was one of 2 people there…”
Evelyn Rios, also via twitter, says “I voted! Rose & Webster polling location was nearly empty. Crickets.”
5:45 PM: Appeal contrib Jackson West writes in, saying that “Polling place at the Bahai Center was quietly humming, with half stations busy. Shout out to poll workers Esperanza and Diana for providing some comic relief.”
