police-light-bar1.jpg9:28 AM: A man struck and killed by a car Monday night while he was walking up a San Francisco highway off-ramp on crutches was identified today by the medical examiner’s office as 60-year-old Willie Speights.

Speights, a San Francisco resident, was hit on the Cesar Chavez Street off-ramp from northbound U.S. Highway 101 at about 8:15 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver did not suffer any major injuries, according to the CHP.

The CHP is investigating the collision. The vehicle involved was impounded, but no arrests have been made.

1:28 AM: A man walking up a San Francisco highway off-ramp on crutches was killed on Monday night when he was struck by an exiting car, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol said.

The report came in at around 8:15 p.m. that a man was hit by a car on the off-ramp just off of northbound U.S. Highway 101 at the Cesar Chavez Street exit, CHP Officer Ralph Caggiano said. The incident kept one lane of the off-ramp closed until about 9:40 p.m., he said.

The adult man who was struck was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead, Caggiano said.

The driver did not suffer any major injuries from the crash.

Caggiano said that officers are still investigating whether the driver saw the man in the road before the incident occurred. The vehicle was impounded, but no arrests were made, he said.
