When you google “Indian burial grounds,” one of the first results you get is this yahoo answers entry, which asks “Why do Indian Burial Grounds get blamed for most hauntings???” and wonders “Haven’t the Indians been thru enough without blaming the dead?”
Apparently not, according to the (real, not those kind of sketchy “examiners”) Examiner’s John Upton, who wrote a seriously fascinating piece* that posits that “the Bay Bridge’s deadly S-curve was built hundreds of feet above a Muwekma Ohlone tribal burial ground, and spirits whose bodies were unearthed and placed in storage are said to be restless.”
I am not making this up! Read the whole thing, which is full of fun facts like how some skeletons buried on what’s now Coast Guard land “were placed in storage because the tribe, which is recognized by California, has not been recognized by the United States since the 1930s.” MY GOD COAST GUARD this is how The Shining happened!
*I know I am totally late to this story, which appeared on Friday. But it kept looking at me from its tab, and I started worrying that if I closed the tab without doing, uh, something with it I TOO WOULD BE CURSED.
