The San Francisco Department of Public Works is alerting commuters that traffic along Battery Street will be affected through August due to a sewer replacement and pavement renovation project.

Work will be conducted on Battery Street between Market Street and the Embarcadero between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some additional work during nights and weekends. Two lanes of traffic will remain open at all times and access to business and properties will not be impacted.

The six-month project includes sewer renovation, which has already begun, roadway construction and installing curb ramps, according to the Department of Public Works.

"This is an extremely critical time for the future of our infrastructure," department director Ed Reiskin said in a statement. "San Francisco's economy is dependent on our streets and public rights of way and we are committed to improving the condition of these valuable public assets."
