An AP story on SFGate reporting that SFO might soon offer free internet access to its visitors was met with predictable derision by commenters: the most endorsed (by publication time) remark was

Way behind the times SFO. 90% of all major airports got that last year or longer. Hell OAK has had it for a long time now.Guess SF had to fight about out who gets a kickback first !

But we are not so cynical, though we only visit SFO to pick up others who can actually afford to travel. Oh, Gate commenters. Y'all are so fun.

According to the Examiner, folks currently pay $7.99 a day to access SFO's T-Mobile wireless service, or $6/hour with an additional 10 cents per minute.

The deal with T-Mobile to free up the service is expected to be approved on Tuesday, after which it "would still need to be endorsed by the San Francisco City Purchaser," says AP. So that "soon" might be a sort of flexible word, like "eventually" or "sometime."
