Acting Gov. Jerry Brown today declared a state of emergency in the city and county of San Francisco and three other counties because of damage from this week’s storms.

The proclamation cites the significant rainfall, high winds, deaths and injuries, snow and mudslides in the state during the past week.

The city and county declared a local emergency Tuesday and requested the governor’s office to declare a state of emergency.

The proclamation states the circumstances and magnitude of the storms are beyond the control of any single county or city and require the combined forces of mutual aid.

The proclamation calls upon the state government, employees, personnel, facilities and equipment to respond and provide local government assistance under the California Disaster Assistance Act.

A state of emergency also was proclaimed in Los Angeles, Riverside and Siskiyou counties.
