5:22 PM: A three-alarm fire in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood this morning has displaced seven residents and closed several businesses in the area.

The fire was reported in a three-story building at 1668 Haight St. at around 4:45 a.m., according to San Francisco fire spokeswoman Lt. Mindy Talmadge. Firefighters had the blaze controlled by about 6:15 a.m.

The fire burned through a first-floor restaurant called Tikka Masala, as well as through two flats above the restaurant, which were safely evacuated, Talmadge said.

Red Cross spokeswoman Brittani Polivka said five adults and two children were displaced from the two units.

“So far everybody seems to have a place to stay tonight, but we’re standing by to see if they’re going to need shelter going forward,” she said.

A cat was also missing after the fire, but has been spotted in the neighborhood, she said.

A building next to the restaurant, Villain’s Clothing, was also damaged and is closed today. An employee at Villain’s Vault, the sister store across the street, said it’s not yet clear when Villain’s will reopen.

Nearby Wasteland, a clothing store located at 1660 Haight St., is also closed today due to smoke damage, according to manager Cat Luedtke.

While the damage isn’t visible, the store smells strongly of smoke, she said.

“We have yet to assess how much of the clothing is damaged,” she said. “We’re really lucky, considering the firemen had to break down our doors.”

Luedtke said the doors have been replaced, and was hopeful that Wasteland would reopen on Wednesday.

Talmadge said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Preliminary damage estimates for the building containing Tikka Masala included $100,000 in property damage and $50,000 in damage to the building’s contents, she said. Much of the damage was water-related, according to Talmadge.

Villain’s Clothing suffered an estimated $50,000 in damage, Talmadge said.
