Previously: Arrest Made In Fatal Stabbing At Cadillac Market
A 46-year-old San Francisco man is facing a murder charge today for allegedly fatally stabbing another man early Monday morning inside a market in the city’s Tenderloin District.
District attorney’s office spokesman Brian Buckelew said prosecutors made the decision this afternoon to charge Patrick Sullivan with one count of murder, with an allegation of the use of a deadly weapon, for the killing of 40-year-old William Quinn, of San Francisco.
Sullivan was arrested at the scene minutes after allegedly stabbing Quinn at about 1:50 a.m. inside the Cadillac Market at 499 Eddy St., according to police.
Police believe the two men argued first outside the store and then continued inside. The cause of the dispute is still under investigation.
“The murder itself is caught on video,” Buckelew said, referring to surveillance video from inside the market.
Sullivan entered the store first, approached the employee behind the counter and told him to call 911, Buckelew said.
Quinn then walked up to Sullivan and Sullivan allegedly stabbed him twice in the chest, Buckelew said. Quinn then staggered outside the store.
Police arrived very quickly and found the men outside.
Sullivan was reportedly on top of Quinn holding a knife as Quinn struggled to get Sullivan off of him, Buckelew said.
Quinn was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead at about 3:30 a.m.
Sullivan, who is scheduled to be arraigned on the murder charge Wednesday morning, faces 26 years to life in prison if convicted.
