6:02 PM: The discovery of what appears to be a stage prop resembling dynamite prompted the evacuation of a couple Tenderloin apartment buildings this afternoon, a police spokesman said.
Officers went to the 300 block of Hyde Street at about 3:15 p.m. on reports of a suspicious device located in an apartment complex, police Officer Boaz Mariles said.
A couple buildings were evacuated and Hyde Street between Eddy and Ellis streets was closed as a San Francisco police bomb squad investigated the device.
Mariles said it appears the item was a plastic stage prop made to look like dynamite and that officers determined it was safe. Hyde Street has since reopened.
The item was booked into evidence and police will investigate whether any criminal intent was involved in the incident.
4:47 PM: San Francisco police are responding to reports of a suspicious device in the city’s Tenderloin neighborhood this afternoon, a police sergeant said.
Officers were called to the 300 block of Hyde Street to investigate the device at about 3:15 p.m. They remained in the area as of about 4:30 p.m., Sgt. Wilfred Williams said.
The investigation has closed Hyde Street between Ellis and Eddy streets.
