More than 1,200 people have been arrested in the Bay Area for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the first 10 days of a regional anti-DUI campaign.
The Bay Area Regional Avoid campaign involves 125 law enforcement agencies around the Bay Area and, as of 6 a.m. today, has netted 1,291 arrests since the increased enforcement efforts began on Dec. 18.
There has been one death attributed to an impaired driver on Bay Area roadways during the campaign, which will continue through Jan. 3.
The Avoid program involves six agencies in Napa County, 10 in Solano County, 13 in Marin County, 13 in Santa Clara County, 13 in Sonoma County, 14 in San Francisco, 21 in Alameda County, 23 in San Mateo County, and 25 in Contra Costa County.
