San Francisco is launching a pilot program to explore the possibility of giving seniors and disabled riders unlimited access to BART and Muni in the city with the purchase of a monthly pass.
Current senior passes only allow unlimited Muni access in the city and county of San Francisco, but the new pass would allow BART access as well, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency.
SFMTA has opened registration for an 18-month pilot program that will allow the agency to test the costs and efficacy of the new, more inclusive pass.
Seniors and disabled citizens have until Nov. 30 to register for a lottery number by calling 311 or visiting www.sfmta.com. Every six months during the pilot period, 2,000 lottery numbers will be randomly selected, and those participants will be eligible to buy six monthly senior/ disabled pass.
The trial period will begin in February, SFMTA said.
