10/5 10:47 AM: A Louisiana man was identified today as the victim of a fatal shooting during an apparent robbery early Sunday in San Francisco’s Hunters Point neighborhood.

Michael Bailey, of Baton Rouge, La., died at San Francisco General Hospital a short time after the shooting, which happened at about 3:30 a.m. on Doublerock Street, a one-block, dead-end street off Cameron Way in the city’s Alice Griffith public housing project, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

The medical examiner’s office has not yet determined Bailey’s age.

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Lyn Tomioka said Bailey was among a group of people driving a woman back to her home on that street.

After the woman went inside, a man came up to Bailey’s group in the car, brandished a gun and ordered everyone out, Tomioka said.

Once the group exited the car, several other suspects came up, went through their pockets and robbed them, Tomioka said.

“Then there was some kind of verbal exchange” and Bailey was shot, Tomioka said.
Bailey’s friends were able to bring him back into their car and flagged down officers in a police car, who then called for an ambulance.

No arrests were made.

Witnesses described the shooter as between 20 and 25 years old and about 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall. He weighs between 180 and 200 pounds and has dreadlocks. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
