Jack London Square is offering free ice skating for ferry riders through Saturday with the aim of making the days more pleasant for commuters who are frazzled by the Bay Bridge’s unexpected closure.
“We know that everyone throughout the Bay Area is suffering a little bit more stress than they are on a typical day because of the difficulties with the Bay Bridge,” square spokesman Jordan Pierce said.
“We thought it would be a great way for people to relax after the long commute,” he said.
Skating at the outdoor rink, located at the foot of Broadway, typically costs $5, with a portion going to Alameda County Meals on Wheels.
But today through Saturday, anyone with a ferry ticket stub will be handed rental skates and be allowed to skate for free. The rink is open from noon to 8 p.m.
Parking in the square is also free for ferry riders, as usual, Pierce said. The main parking structure is located at Embarcadero Way and Washington Street.
