Previously: Portions Of 280 Closed For Nearly 2 Hours After Vehicle Collisions, Pedestrian Fatality
The California Highway Patrol is searching for a hit-and-run driver who is believed to have fatally struck a pedestrian on southbound Interstate Highway 280 in San Francisco on Thursday night.
The pedestrian was struck at about 10:15 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway near Ocean Avenue, CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said.
According to an initial report, the victim was incoherent, intoxicated and wandering in and out of the lanes before being struck by multiple vehicles, CHP Officer Shawn Chase said.
At least two vehicles stopped after striking the body, but the initial vehicle that struck the victim did not stop, according to Chase.
There is no description of the suspect vehicle.
“It should have some damage to the front of the vehicle, the hood, the windshield, and there should be blood on the vehicle. That’s what we’re looking for,” he said.
The crash caused the closure of portions of southbound Highway 280 for nearly three hours, and also is believed to have contributed to a minor-injury, two-vehicle collision that occurred shortly after midnight near San Jose Avenue, according to the CHP.
