Answering a question a lot of folks have been asking, yes, Muni’s new catastrophe insurance policy was in effect in time for July 18th’s big Muni crash.
The policy, which started onJuly 1, covers payments if all the claims filed for one incident add up to fall between $5 and $25 million.
Matt Dorsey, spokesperson for the City Attorney’s office has said that as of Wednesday morning, only one claim regarding the July 18 incident has been submitted:
Flora Yee, a 61-year-old bank employee, is asking the city to pay for her possessions damaged in the crash. The items, which consist of sunglasses, a clay cooking pot, a jar of vinegar and fresh meat add up to $192.80. Yee is also planning to submit another claim for her medical costs.
All claims must be filed within 6 months after the incident, so that’s only $4,999,807.20 to go until that insurance will kick in.
