Construction Crew Discovers Explosive Inside Home During Renovation

A construction crew working on a home in San Francisco’s Monterey Heights neighborhood discovered what appeared to be an explosive on Thursday morning.

Around 10:14 a.m., officers responded to a report of a suspected explosive found at a home in the 100 block of St. Elmo Way, according to police.

The crew, who had been working on a major home renovation at the time, discovered an old military grade explosive behind a water heater, police said.

The owner said they had no idea how the item got there.

The Police Department’s bomb squad responded to the scene and determined the suspected explosive was inert, according to police.
