Taxi Driver Robbed By Passengers In SOMA

Two passengers robbed a taxi driver in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood early this morning, police said.

The driver, a man in his mid 60s, picked up a male and a female passenger in his cab around 2:40 a.m. and drove them to the intersection of 12th and Howard streets, according to police.

Upon arrival at the intersection, the female suspect, believed to be in her early to mid 30s, pulled on the driver’s shirt collar. The male suspect then demanded the driver’s property, police aid.

The male suspect said that he had a gun and told the driver that he didn’t want to shoot him, police said.

Officers said the driver complied with the suspects’ demands and handed over his cellphone and cash.

Both suspects exited the taxi and then fled the area on foot, police said.

The taxi driver was not injured in the robbery.

Officers have not yet made any arrests in the case, police said.
