Driver Cited for Misdemeanor Manslaughter in Fatal Collision

A driver who struck and killed a 77-year-old man in a crosswalk near Portsmouth Square in San Francisco Wednesday evening was cited for misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, a police spokesman said today.

The driver of the silver truck, identified by police as Tim Pak Wong, 59, of San Francisco, fatally struck Aiyou Zhou at about 6 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Clay and Kearny streets, according to police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza.

Zhou, a San Francisco resident, died of his injuries at San Francisco General Hospital, police said.

The San Francisco Planning Department has deemed Kearny Street once of the city’s high-injury corridors.
