Bicyclist Struck, Killed in Mission District Identified

A 66-year-old man who was fatally struck by a car as he was riding a bicycle in San Francisco’s Mission District on Monday afternoon has been identified, according to the medical examiner’s office.

San Francisco resident Charles Vinson was struck by a car at the intersection of 14th and Folsom streets, according to San Francisco fire spokeswoman Jen Balestrieri.

Balestrieri said a 911 call came in reporting the collision at about 12:36 p.m.

She said CPR was performed on the bicyclist as he was transported to the hospital at 12:46 p.m.

San Francisco police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan said the bicyclist was bleeding when emergency crews arrived and that the driver of the four-door sedan involved in the collision remained at the scene.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
