Woman’s Cellphone Tracked Down, Recovered After Portola Robbery

A woman who was mugged by three suspects in San Francisco’s Portola neighborhood on Tuesday evening was reunited with her cellphone and wallet after the phone was tracked to the city’s South of Market neighborhood and the suspects were detained, according to police.

The 36-year-old victim was on Amherst Street between Silliman and Felton streets around 5:30 p.m. when three suspects, two males and a female, approached her, police said.

The first suspect, described as a man in his late teens, attempted to grab the victim’s handbag but she resisted. Then another suspect, described as a woman in her early 20s, came to assist the male suspect, at which point the victim gave up her struggle.

The two suspects, along with a third described as a man in his early 20s, fled on foot with the victim’s property, police said.

The cellphone was then tracked to Sixth Street between Mission and Market streets, where officers located the three suspects in possession of the victim’s wallet and cellphone and took them into custody. Their names were not immediately available this morning, according to police.
