Suspect in Bayview Robbery Arrested

San Francisco police arrested a 21-year-old man on Tuesday suspected of robbing another man and evading police officers the previous day.

Police arrested San Francisco resident Corwyn James Duvernay for robbing a 52-year-old man near the intersection of Revere Avenue and Industrial Street in the Bayview District around 10:15 p.m. on Monday.

Officers said the victim was getting an item out of his parked vehicle when the suspect vehicle pulled up alongside him.

San Francisco police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan said the victim reported that two suspects got out of the vehicle and approached him.

One of the suspects pointed a handgun at him as the other went through his pockets, removing his wallet, police said.

After stealing the victim’s wallet, the suspects got back into their vehicle and drove away, Gatpandan said.

The victim reported the incident to police and a short while later, officers spotted the suspect vehicle near the intersection of 10th and Division streets in the city’s South of Market neighborhood.

When police attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, the driver took off speeding and threw the victim’s wallet out of the window, according to Gatpandan.

The next day, police located the suspect vehicle parked in front of a residence in the 2200 block of 25th Street near De Haro Street in the city’s Potrero Hill neighborhood.

Officers set up surveillance and at about 3 p.m. saw one of the suspects exit the residence and get into the suspect vehicle.

Gatpandan said the suspect attempted to get away but was quickly detained by police and soon after positively identified by the victim.

A search of the suspect vehicle turned up numerous items of stolen property, including the victim’s credit cards, police said.

Officers obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s home address in the Ingleside neighborhood and searched the home on Wednesday.

Police located a loaded .40 caliber handgun as well as other evidence including multiple iPhones, iPads, laptops and other electronics, according to officers

Duvernay was out on bail at the time of his arrest, according to Gatpandan, and is facing a bail enhancement.

Duvernay was arrested on suspicion of felony robbery, possession of stolen property, resisting, delaying or obstructing arrest, and driving on a suspended license, according to Gatpandan.

Police are continuing to investigate the robbery and identify the suspect’s accomplice.
