‘Untruthful’ Witness Statements Made During Investigation of Homicide Near Candlestick Park

An investigation into who shot and killed a 21-year-old man near San Francisco’s Candlestick Park last week remains ongoing after at least one witness was “untruthful” about the events surrounding the homicide, a police spokesman said today.

Details surrounding the fatal shooting of Daniel Filimona, such as what time on Jan. 7 the shooting occurred and information about possible suspects, remain undetermined, San Francisco police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

The homicide has been tied to a crime scene at Jamestown Avenue and Harney Way, located next to Candlestick Point State Recreation Area and a parking lot next to Candlestick Park, Esparza said.

Filimona was initially taken to Kaiser Permanente South San Francisco Medical Center with at least one gunshot wound and then was transported to San Francisco General Hospital but was pronounced dead, Esparza said.

Esparza today did not go into detail about the witness statements or what investigators found to be untruthful.
