A 26-year-old man was seriously injured after five men attacked him in San Francisco’s Mission District early Saturday morning, police said today.
The attack was reported at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday on Albion Street, less than a block from dozens of restaurants, bars and nightclubs along 16th and Valencia streets.
Based on the preliminary police investigation, the victim was engaged in an argument with a man on Albion Street. As the victim turned and began to walk away, five suspects approached him.
The suspects began attacking him and then one of the suspects took out a sharp object and stabbed the victim in the upper back with it, according to police.
Police said the suspects fled before officers arrived and they have not yet been identified.
The victim was found suffering from at least one life-threatening stab wound and was transported to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment.
Police described the suspects as five men between the ages of 25 and 30.
The nature of the argument and the motive for the subsequent attack remain under investigation.
