SFPD Arrest Man Who Threw an Explosive Device From a Vehicle in SoMa

Police arrested a man in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood on Saturday for allegedly throwing an explosive device from his vehicle and then driving away.

The suspect, a man in his 40s whose name was not immediately being released by police, was driving a pickup truck on Fifth Street near Market Street at about 2 p.m. on Saturday when he allegedly threw an explosive device from his vehicle, police said.

A police officer in a marked patrol vehicle pulled the driver over and proceeded to find additional explosive devices and possible bomb-making equipment in the vehicle.

The suspect was arrested and police are investigating the man’s motives and the equipment found in the vehicle.
