A 20-year-old San Mateo man was arrested after he and others allegedly looted a RadioShack store in San Francisco’s Mission District during a demonstration about a grand jury’s decision not to indict a Missouri police officer for the fatal shooting of an unarmed teenager, police said today.
Andres Francisco Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of stolen property after he allegedly looted a RadioShack store located at 2710 Mission St., San Francisco police Officer Grace Gatpandan said today.
Police said 78 other people were also arrested or given citations during the San Francisco demonstration, which came days after the announcement that a grand jury declined to indict Ferguson, Missouri, police Officer Darren Wilson, who is white, for the Aug. 9 fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown, who is black.
Erika Garcia, a manager at the RadioShack, said that while she wasn’t working in the store at the time the looting took place, three other employees were.
Garcia said the employees reported that a person threw at least one rock at the front door, causing the glass to shatter.
She said about seven people then entered the store and the employees ran to the back of the store to get away from them.
The suspects, a group of both males and females, some with face coverings and others without, then stole merchandise from the store, Garcia said.
She said the store’s video surveillance footage has been handed over to police working on the investigation.
Hernandez was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy, as well as failure to comply with a peace officer and failure to yield to vehicles in the roadway.
