Basements Flooded In Union Square After Water Main Breaks

10:54 AM: San Francisco Public Utilities Commission crews are repairing a water main in Union Square this morning, according to a SFPUC spokesman.

A contractor working in a building near Stockton and Geary streets hit a water main causing it to burst at about 9:30 a.m., SFPUC said.

San Francisco fire crews are also on the scene.

Water from the main break has flooded the basements of several nearby buildings, San Francisco fire officials said.

10:23 AM: A water main break has been reported near Union Square in San Francisco this morning, flooding the basements of several buildings with large amounts of water, fire officials said.

The exact location of the break has not been released, but it was reported at about 9:30 a.m. in the area near Geary Street and Maiden Lane.

Units from the San Francisco Fire Department are on the scene and have set up a command post along Geary Street.
San Francisco Public Utilities Commission crews are also on the scene working to repair the water main, fire officials said.
