Man Fights For Life After Apparently Walking Into Back Of N Judah

A 29-year-old man suffered life-threatening head injuries this afternoon in the Sunset District after he apparently stepped out into the street and struck the rear end of a Muni light-rail vehicle, according to a San Francisco police spokesman.

The westbound N-Judah train was crossing 15th street at 2:12 p.m. when a pedestrian, who had been seen standing on the eastbound platform, walked out and contacted the rear of the second car and then fell to the ground, police Officer Albie Esparza said.

The victim, described by police as a 29-year-old male, suffered a head wound and trauma and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He is currently in the operating room and is expected to be in intensive care tonight, Esparza said.

The collision shut down service on the N-Judah line for several hours between 19th and Hillway avenues, according to San Francisco Municipal Railway officials.
