Woman Who Was Struck By Driver While Waiting For Muni Remains In The Hospital

A man who drove into a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus stop and seriously injured a woman in the city’s Mission Terrace neighborhood Friday night was allegedly driving under the influence, a police spokesman said today.

Virgilio Aquino Jr., 44, of San Francisco, was arrested after allegedly driving his car into a bus stop at Mission Street and Silver Avenue around 9:35 p.m. Friday, according to San Francisco police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza.

Aquino hit a 42-year-old woman, who was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Esparza said.

Aquino, the driver and only occupant in the car, was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries, he said.

Aside from the bus shelter, Aquino also hit a light pole and other objects on the sidewalk, according to police.

He was arrested on suspicion of DUI, driving with a suspended license, speeding, and a probation violation, according to Esparza.
