4:51 PM: The southbound lanes of San Francisco’s Great Highway have reopened this afternoon after sand was removed from the roadway, a city Department of Public Works spokeswoman said.

The two lanes, which run along Ocean Beach between Lincoln Way and Sloat Boulevard, had been shut down just before 10 a.m. to allow crews to clear away sand, DPW spokeswoman Rachel Gordon said.

As of 2:45 p.m., the sand had been removed and traffic was allowed back on the roadway.

Northbound lanes remained open during the closure.

11:39 AM: The southbound lanes of San Francisco’s Great Highway have been closed for sand removal, a city Department of Public Works spokeswoman said this morning.
