Medical Examiner Identifies Man Shot And Killed By SFPD

A man who was killed in an officer-involved shooting in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights Park Friday night has been identified as Alejandro Nieto, according to the San Francisco medical examiner’s office.

Nieto, a 28-year-old San Francisco man, was fatally shot after officers were called to Bernal Heights Park around 7:10 p.m., according to San Francisco police Sgt. Danielle Newman.

Officers found Nieto allegedly with a gun and when he pointed the weapon toward the officers, and more than one of the officers, fearing for their lives, opened fire, Newman said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and police found another weapon, Newman said.

A town hall meeting with police Chief Greg Suhr is being organized for Tuesday evening, Newman said this morning.

She said more information would be released about the shooting at the meeting, which will likely be held in the Bernal Heights neighborhood.
