Victim Of Shooting Near Westfield Mall Expected To Recover

A 19-year-old man who was shot just outside the Westfield Mall in San Francisco on Sunday evening is expected to survive, police said today.

San Francisco police responded to the 800 block of Market Street near Powell Street at about 7:15 p.m. and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Officer Gordon Shyy said.

He transported to San Francisco General Hospital with what were initially believed to be life-threatening injuries, but as of today he is expected to recover, police said.

The suspect, described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s wearing a white T-shirt, fled on foot after the shooting and remains at large, according to police.

The Powell Street BART station was temporarily shut down as a result of the shooting.
