A severe winter storm impacting the East Coast and Midwest this weekend has caused a number of flight cancellations and delays at San Francisco International Airport today, a duty manager said.

As of 1 p.m., 19 flights had been canceled due to winter weather back East, SFO duty manager Nancy Parker said.

Seven departures from SFO and 12 arrivals were among the cancellations, Parker said.

The airports that have been most impacted by the snow and ice were in New York, Chicago, Boston, Washington D.C. and Newark, N.J., Parker said.

Many more flights arriving and departing from those cities were being delayed between one and two hours, she said. Delays were expected to continue throughout the day.

As always, passengers taking off from SFO should check with individual air carriers before departing for the airport.
